The Regional Specialist will work in a team environment in several areas toward achieving regional goals and identifying new opportunities for innovative, community centered activities that expand CAFB’s reach in the community. The Regional Specialist is an integral member of the MD Regional Team, working with Food Resources, Operations, Programs, Finance and coordinates distributions and programs with these departments. The Specialist main area of focus will be functions related to The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) across 2 counties in MD and the District of Columbia. TEFAP is a program that provides nutritious government food to low-income families. The position requires an individual who is eager to build strong relationships with community organizations.

Position Requirements/Essential Functions:

Program Management - 50%

  • Recruit, train, conduct outreach, and maintain compliance with participating TEFAP agencies.
  • Conduct annual recertification training and relevant trainings on an as needed basis to ensure program guidelines are met.
  • Expansion of TEFAP network partnerships.
  • Help with onboarding partners into the Service Insights database system.
  • Work with Operations and Food Resources Departments to maintain a consistent and nutritious inventory that is in line with our ability to distribute the food in a timely manner.
  • Create systems, processes and practices that improve efficiency, communication, and reporting.
  • Communicate regularly with Operations staff about product availability.
  • Review, process and allocate produce to partner orders for distribution.
  • Engage with a variety of partners to understand their needs.
  • Represent the Capital Area Food Bank at external meetings with partners and community stakeholders.

    Compliance – 40%
  • Maintain compliance with all aspects of rules of operation and reporting across state agencies and the Capital Area Food Bank; including safe storage of TEFAP product.
  • Collect and analyze data, as required, from USDA partners and provide quarterly reports to the state agency.
  • Communicate with state agencies to strengthen our relationship and including but not limited to report, compliance, and guidance about TEFAP program.
  • Monitor sites/site coordinators to ensure program guidelines are met by performing annual and as needed site inspections.
  • Perform internal audit program reviews.
  • Maintain and update all records pertaining to TEFAP, including updating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedure for the program.
  • Maintain distribution site information and accurately updates database and hard copy files.

    Regional Support – 10%
  • Represents the CAFB at special events, speaking engagements, with external stakeholders, in media, etc.
  • Coordination of special projects with the MD team
  • Communicate regularly with Operations and Food Resource staff about ordering and scheduling of truck deliveries and product availability.
  • Engage with a variety of partners to understand their needs.
